If you are one of the nearly 3000 visitors to this web site you know that I ran for State Representative in 2010 under the Libertarian banner.
To say that the results of this effort were less than spectacular would not be an understatement. Still, on a percentage basis I had the highest percentage of any Libertarian Candidate in the state which I believe indicates that, while unsuccessful, our plan was good. So what happened that caused us to fail so miserably?
The answer is one simple word...MONEY!! As I stated when I began this run, It is an unfortunate fact of life that politics in this country are controlled by who has the most money. Of course, we can never expect to match the power brokers in Harrisburg BUT we can raise enough money to actually win a race or two, or three, or....
I stated that to win I would need a minimum of $35,000 in contributions. I received less than $2500. By carefully using these resources and with the help of a lot of volunteers we were able to garner over 2500 votes. That figures out to about a dollar a vote where the national average is, I believe, somewhere between three and four dollars a vote.
I don't know that I will ever run again...but somebody will and if we don't support him or her that candidate is doomed to the same failure that we experienced.
Therefore, I am now looking for donations to be used in the 2012 campaign by whoever the candidate is that we field. The money will be placed in an escrow account which cannot be touched until the 012 campaign begins. By that time, hopefully, we will have the $35,000 needed to run a winning campaign.
