WHY ARE LIBERTARIANS RUNNING
To me, there are only two reasons why a person would run for office…personal glory or to serve you to the best of his or her ability. I believe that most, if not all, Libertarians fall into the latter category. To us, YOU are among the most important people in the world and it is YOU that deserve all the praise and glory because YOU are the people who made it happen.
If elected, you have my personal pledge that under no circumstances will I ever vote for an increase in taxes. It doesn’t matter how it is dressed up, anything that takes more money out of your pocket is a tax increase and is, in my opinion, legalized theft.
I also pledge that I will not vote for any issue that gives special favor to one group or another. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a doctor, lawyer, a day laborer, gay or straight, black, white or green; NOBODY deserves special treatment over any other. Human rights are individual rights and not group rights.
Because I feel that government should not be shrouded in mystery, if elected I will revise this web site to keep you updated on everything that is happening, good or bad. Only if you are fully informed as to what is happening will you be able to make an informed decision at the polls.
There are many laws that I will try to eliminate and a few that I will try to pass. Most of these are covered in the long “issues” section but just to give you a tickler here I will point out one of the “bad” laws I wish to eliminate.
Milk…it does a body good. It builds strong bones and healthy children. BUT…if a farmer wishes to sell his milk for less than an artificially specified price he will be forbidden by law to do so. The same is true of the store where you buy it. Why is a farmer not allowed to sell his products for whatever price he feels is fair (if the market will allow it)? And why must you pay a higher price for that same product if the state didn’t dictate otherwise?
To me, this is patently unfair. It is unbelievable state interference with the free market and should not be permitted.
You asked why I’m running for office. These are just a few reasons of many.
And now just a bit about HOW I plan to win:
I have divided the district into five sections...North, South, East, West and Central. I plan on having a volunteer in each section to promote my candidacy with the local flavor. None of this will occur prior to the primary election as I really don't want the democrats to get wind of my campaign until after it is too late to get a candidate on the ballot.
In the meantime, I am doing everything I can think of to simply promote the party. This includes an, already existing, regular column in a local newspaper and, of course, as many letters to the editor as possible. I am also negotiating with a local radio station to get a weekly (or daily) call in program that would simply promote the Libertarian alternative.
Plans for the summer are currently in the works. Among other things, they include a combination OPH/campaign booth at around five different festivals culminating with Applefest in early October. By late May or early June I plan to appoint a campaign manager whose sole responsibility will be to schedule speaking engagements for either me or another member of our recently created LPVC Speakers Bureau.
Another thing being considered is posting very large signs on every road leading into the district. The signs would read: WELCOME TO LIBERTARIAN COUNTRY with a subtitle of Small Goverment Low Taxes More Freedom.
Finally, we have several things that are going on in the local area that are already planting the seeds that will lead to a Libertarian Victory. These include six elected Libertarians in the district (four in the last election), an LPVC speakers bureau that speaks at local churches, schools and organizations, a column entitled “A Libertarian Minute” that appears in every issue of a local weekly paper where we spell out the advantages of the Libertarian alternative, almost daily letters to the editor and, finally, a very active local organization whose activities are covered extensively in the local daily newspapers and who publishes a newsletter approximately every two months.
As you can see, we plan to run a very aggressive campaign with many facets all running at the same time.
